Cian Boylan is recognised as one of the leading producers, pianists, arrangers, composers and songwriters working in ireland today.

An extremely versatile musician his work spans many genres including rock & pop, jazz, orchestral and film/tv & theatre.

A critically accaimed jazz and session pianist, he is equally at home on the stage as he is arranging and composing for orchestra, big band and smaller ensembles. He is also an extremely experienced musical director and published songwriter, composer and and one of the most in-demand music producers in Ireland.

As a touring artist he has performed in many prestigious venues and concert halls around the world, including Europe, USA, Russia, China, Japan, South America and the Middle East.

He holds a first class Masters Degree in Jazz Music Performance from The Dublin Conservatory of Music. He studied Film Scoring with the late Don Brandon Ray, head music supervisor at ABC and founder of the UCLA Film Scoring course. He has also studied with Golden Globe Hollywood composer Christopher Young (Spider Man, The Rum Diaries, etc) and was awarded the prestigious Moonstone Film Composers’ Workshop in 2005.

His arrangements have been performed and recorded by The RTE Concert Orchestra, The Ulster Orchestra, The Sofia National Orchestra, The Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra, The Dublin City Jazz Orchestra, The Liberty Orchestra and The Irish Chamber Orchestra amongst many others.

Recent album productions and arrangements include Streetlights "Homeward Bound" featuring Bono, Cathy Davey, Gary Lightbody, Little Green Cars, Saint Sister, The Villagers and a host of other stars which charted at #1 in the Irish Single charts and the live concert and album for Feile Classical 2018 featuring the The Irish Chamber Orchestra and Hothouse Flowers, Something Happens, The Four Of Us, An Emotional Fish, The Frank & Walters and The Stunning which charted at #1 in the Irish Album charts.

His music has been used in many film and TV productions including Lenny Abrahamson’s “Normal People”, Golden Bear nominee "Return To Montauk" starring Stellan Skarsgard and Nina Hoss by Oscar Winning director Volker Schondorf, Oscar Nominated "The Lobster" featuring Colin Farrell, Rachel Weitz, and John C. Reilly, Bafta Award-winning of Amazon Prime/BBC TV Series "Ripper Street" (Seasons 2 to 5) starring Matthew MacFayden, and Discover Channel's "Harley & The Davidsons" starring Michael Huisman and Dougray Scott and the feature film “The Last Right” starring Michael Huisman, Brian Cox and Niamh Algar. He is a founder of Growl Music along with Ben Castle specialising in music for Film, TV and adverts.

He has been composer, musical director and arranger on many stage and theatre productions, including Deboragh Warner's production of Mother Courage in the National Theatre, London and has arranged for the RTE Concert Orchestra for stage productions and album recordings. He is the musical director and arranger on the spectacular worldwide touring music and and dance show "Women Of Ireland”.

He is also a critically acclaimed jazz pianist and has recorded four albums under his own name. He is the band leader and vocalist in his eight-piece New Orleans funk outfit “Toot Sweet and The Shadow Man” described by Jazzwise Magazine as “The Perfect Festival Band”. He has recently collaborated with BBC presenter and trumpet legend Linley Hamilton, producing and arranging his new orchestral jazz album "Making Other Arrangements" and quintet album “For The Record” featuring legendary US musicians Adam Nussbaum and Mark Egan which featured in the US Jazz billboard charts for twenty weeks running

Cian is a NORD Artist and is published and represented by Silverstream Music. He has been involved with various academic institutions over the course of his career including lecturing in Advanced Music Theory & Arranging in BIMM University, Dublin and acting as external examiner for various institutions including Cork CIT Conservatory of Music. He is a board member of AIM Ireland (Association of Independent Music) representing the collective voice recording studios and producers.
